Saving

It's my new thing. And it's been a long time coming. I used to laugh at people that always had a coupon for this or that and never wanted to eat somewhere unless they had a coupon. Well, I've come to the other side! Since we now have two kids, daycare costs, formula costs and diaper costs, I've been clipping my life away and it's really paying off. And you know I could have tried harder to pump and even tried cloth diapers, but I just knew that would put me over the edge being a full time working mom and with baby girl having her breathing issues I'm already stressed most of the time. But my new coupon mania is wonderful! I even have a system on my formula that is paying off big time. So here's my tricks so far.
  • Shopped at Meijer this past weekend and I watched their sales plus added the coupons I had to what was on sale. Plus they had a buy 5 get $5 off deal. I did amazing. I got $90 bucks worth of groceries for $60!
  • Shopped Aldi's for the rest.
  • Used my CVS extra care bucks ($4) plus my formula mfg coupon ($5) on my formula. Saved $9 bucks!
  • Watched the diaper sales and got Huggies on sale plus used mfg coupons for $2 off each!
  • Sent little man and his Daddy to the movies on Sunday with free movie tickets left over from a couple of months ago. This isn't really a trick, but it was still cool!
  • Switched all our prescriptions to CVS because I had 3 (yes count them 3) $25 offers to switch. They let me have them all!
  • Planning on doing the free Children's Museum night each month too as a cheap family activity.
  • Loving freecyle! I've been trading formula coupons for the ones I don't use for the one I do. Plus I got an awesome dresser for the kids for FREE. Love it.
  • Still doing Craigslist too. Looking for items like kids snow boots and such now. Why pay full price when they grow so quick!
  • Also getting hand me downs from family and friends on baby clothes. Gotten lots of cute stuff!

It is such an awesome feeling to save! I'm loving it. Should have started long ago.

Don't you love it! I told me husband that even if we didn't have financial struggles, I would still want to be "thrifty" and save when I can. My husband used to be a "just buy it" type of guy and now he sees the value in waiting, buying on sale, buying "store" brand, etc!

Yay for saving! I went on a big coupon kick last fall and got a lot of great deals. I'm hoping to get back on the bandwagon to stock up again this fall. I've never tried freecycle - I'll have to check it out.

Also, I wanted to say thanks for stopping by my blog a few weeks ago. I'm glad you enjoyed my treasure hunting post!

Have a great weekend!
